According to Italian publication Tuttosport (h/t Express), Manchester United have identified Federico Bernardeschi as a cheaper alternative to Jadon Sancho.

Sancho is a vastly superior player with a higher potential. He will, however, set us back around £100million. Given the current financial landscape, it will be a significant investment by the club to bid for the 20-year-old.

Dortmund too aren’t immune to the financial difficulties that have affected the football world. This could yet see the price for Sancho drop.

United are also ready to give the youngster the legendary No.7 jersey. Previously donned by Cristiano Ronaldo, Eric Cantona and David Beckham, the club’s gesture is significant.

This has not stopped United from also looking elsewhere for alternatives. One such name is Juventus winger Bernardeschi.

The 26-year-old has found opportunities hard to come by under Maurizio Sarri this season. He has made 24 appearances, scoring one goal and one assist across all competitions. Of these, just 12 appearances have come as starts. (h/t Transfermarkt)

It is possible that he will find opportunities even harder next season given the summer arrival of Dejan Kulusevski from Parma.

According to the report, he could be available for as little as £30million. A snip compared to the price quoted for Sancho.

Sancho is a world class player

It was earlier reported that the Italian is open to a move to England to resurrect his career.

Predominantly deployed on the right wing, Bernardeschi’s versatility has seen him play a variety of roles in the midfield and attack. Having a player who can play across the frontline with the same efficiency will give Ole Gunnar Solskjaer a number of options.

If given an option, United should go for Sancho. The youngster is a match-winner who can turn into something special.

In the changing landscape of the transfer market, it is always good to be ready. In case the Sancho deal goes sideways, United must have an option to fall back onto.
