Ricky-Jade Jones looks up to Marcus Rashford as his role model
According to Sky Sports, Peterborough sensation Ricky-Jade Jones has revealed he looks up to Manchester United star Marcus Rashford as his idol.
This will come as excellent news for the Red Devils, who have been tracking the player’s progress with interest.
The 17-year-old has also drawn interest from Liverpool and Arsenal. He has not let the attention get to him and is keen to continue his development.
“I’m in a good position right now and I’m enjoying football so it doesn’t distract me. It just gives me more motivation to show everyone what I can do.”
Having been at the club since the age of nine, Jones is grateful to the opportunities Peterborough has given him. Capable of running 100m in 10.9 seconds, his pace is something that marks him out.
Jones has been unfazed in spite of playing in the first-team as a teenager. He has made 16 appearances this season, while scoring four goals. (h/t Transfermarkt)
The fact that he adores Rashford could work in our favour if we try to sign him. The youngster admitted that he enjoys watching Rashford play and learns a lot from him.
“Marcus Rashford because the way he broke into the team was similar to me and my upbringing. I watch Rashford a lot and learn from him.”
However, he believes he is well suited to be a player akin to Jamie Vardy. Given his pace, we would agree he has a point there.
Vardy is one of the best strikers in the Premier League. If jones can incorporate the qualities of both Rashford and Vardy, he will become a fearsome striker in the future.
United have in recent months focussed on bringing in the best young talents. Jones has distinguished himself at Peterborough. If he continues to develop as he is, there is no reason why he cannot one day don the United jersey.

Rashford was 18 years old when he burst onto the scene at United. Jones is on the right track in emulating his idol.
Let’s hope the duo ends up playing and terrorizing defences together for United one day.
