Manchester United keeping tabs on David Brooks and Joshua King

According to MEN, Manchester United are monitoring Bournemouth duo David Brooks and Joshua King as the transfer window approaches.

The Cherries duo are however not priority transfers and are only being considered by the club as backups in case we don’t land our preferred options at right-wing and up front.

Brooks is considered to be an alternative for Borussia Dortmund ace Jadon Sancho. The 22-year-old is a versatile attacker who is equally comfortable playing as an attacking midfielder as he is on the right wing and as a second striker.

David Brooks could be a shrewd signing for United

It is not the first time that we have been linked to the Welshman. The player was linked with a move to Old Trafford in a deal worth £50million last summer.

He enjoyed an impressive debut season in the Premier League and put up stats comparable to both Jack Grealish and James Maddison.

He is also the reigning Welsh Footballer of the Year. The last United player to do so was the legendary Ryan Giggs. Clearly, there is more to the youngster than what meets the eye.

However, he has not played any competitive football this season after suffering a serious ankle injury in July. He returned to light training in February and is likely to be fit when the Premier League season resumes.

Joshua King has been impressive for Bournemouth

A void at the top

King, on the other hand, is a player United fans will be familiar with. The 28-year old was a part of United’s reserves that played under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The striker was unable to make the step up to the first-team and made just two appearances in his five seasons with the club.

Since signing for Bournemouth in 2015, King has gone on to establish himself a reliable striker for the Cherries. He has scored 48 goals in 163 appearances for Eddie Howe’s side.

United tried to sign King in January only for Bournemouth to price us out of a deal. The forward has since admitted that a return to United would be a dream come true.

With Odion Ighalo’s future up in the air, United are in need of another striker. Although King isn’t a name that gets fans excited, Ighalo has shown that the right player in the right system can always make a difference.

By drawing up a list of backups, the club should be commended for preparing for any eventuality. It may not always be possible to land one’s preferred targets. Having a plan B rather than being caught off-guard shows the due diligence being done by the recruitment team.

According to the report, United’s priority targets this summer are Sancho, Grealish and Birmingham teenager Jude Bellingham
