Manchester United face Inter Milan threat in race for Edinson Cavani
According to French publication L’Equipe (h/t Daily Mail), Manchester United have fallen behind Italian giants Inter Milan in the race for PSG striker Edinson Cavani.
The 33-year-old veteran is in the final few weeks of his contract at the Parc des Princes. Despite his advanced age, he is well in demand, with the likes of United, Newcastle United, and Atletico Madrid all keen.
The Nerazzurri are, however, keen to pip their rivals for the player and have offered him a three-year deal at the San Siro. It is a significant commitment by the Italians, especially since the player will be 36 by the time it expires.
According to the report, Inter are the favourites for Cavani due to his history in the Serie A. He has considerable experience in the Italian first division, having played for both Palermo and Napoli.
The Uruguayan international made a combined 255 appearances for the Italian duo while scoring 141 goals and 22 assists. (h/t Transfermarkt)
Although United are still in the running, the lengthy contract offered by Inter might swing the pendulum in their favour.
Another shrewd addition?
Bringing in another striker could become a priority for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the upcoming transfer window. Marcus Rashford is the undisputed first choice, but the options behind him aren’t as consistent or experienced.
The club wasn’t able to bring in a striker permanently in January and had to settle for Nigerian veteran Odion Ighalo on loan. Although the striker has performed commendably, uncertainty over his future continues to persist.
A serial winner who has won an impressive 21 trophies in his career, Cavani will also add the vast experience to a side keen on making its way back to the top.

Cavani joined PSG from Napoli in 2013. He has since played 301 times for the Parisians while scoring 200 goals and assisting 43 more.
Despite being 33, Cavani continues to be one of the best finishers in the game. He will add considerable experience and quality to our frontline. Whether we make a move or not remains to be seen.
