Manchester United in talks with the agent of Adrien Rabiot
According to Italian publication Gazzetta Dello Sport (h/t Daily Mail), Manchester United have held talks with the agent of Juventus star Adrien Rabiot.
The 25-year-old midfielder looks set to move on just a season after joining the Italian giants. In spite of making 24 appearances, he is yet to register a goal or an assist for the defending Serie A champions.
United are not alone in their interest in the player, with Arsenal and Everton also keen. The Red Devils, however, look to trump their rivals as they met with Rabiot’s mother Veronique (who is also his agent), to discuss his availability.
The Frenchman has found it hard to make an impact in Turin. In spite of starting 16 of 24 games, he has finished the whole 90 minutes just nine times. (h/t Transfermarkt)
According to the Italian press (h/t Daily Mail), he had gone on strike over the club’s decision to cut his wages by £7million due to the coronavirus crisis.
As reported by French publication Le10 Sport (h/t Daily Mail), his future in Italy is in doubt after he was placed on the transfer list.
Juventus will demand around £27million for the player when the transfer window opens. This will be a considerable profit on a player they signed for free just last summer.
Proven at the highest level
Capable of playing both in central and defensive midfield, Rabiot is a vastly experienced player. Having made 40 appearances in the Champions League, his ability to compete at the highest level is not in question.
With his stint in Italy failing to impress, a change of scenery could be in order. With the future of Paul Pogba uncertain and the likes of Nemanja Matic getting older, United will need to invest in their midfield.
They have already struck gold by bringing in Bruno Fernandes in January. Adding Rabiot in the summer could further solidify us in the middle fo the park.
