Peter Schmeichel names Fred as his Man United Player of the Season
Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel has made a surprise choice when asked who his favourite Man United player this season was. He answered this when taking part in a Twitter Q and A session. (h/t MEN)
The former shot-stopper has named Brazilian midfielder Fred as his favourite United player this season.
The Brazilian star has come a long way since making the move to Old Trafford in 2018. Much was expected of the player with then-manager Jose Mourinho particularly highlighting the creativity he would add to the side. (h/t BBC)
It did not go according to plan as the Brazilian struggled to make an impact early on. He made only 25 appearances last season, finishing just 10 of them. (h/t Transfermarkt)
He has had better luck this time around as he has scored two goals and four assists in 39 appearances so far.
The improved performances have not been lost on Schmeichel, who had no qualms about declaring him as his favourite this season.
The likes of Marcus Rashford, Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan Bissaka and Bruno Fernandes have all made a case to be in the mix for the accolade but it’s Fred who seems to have impressed the senior Schmeichel.
It feels good to see Fred perform better and prove his detractors wrong. Hopefully, he will keep improving and become a crucial component in Solksjaer’s United rebuild.
