Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ready to axe five Man United players in the summer
Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is preparing for a major squad overhaul this summer, which could potentially see the club axe as many as five first-team players (h/t Mirror).
Solskjaer inherited an unbalanced squad from previous manager Jose Mourinho, but has done a fairly solid repair job so far.
Under the Norwegian, the club made some fine additions in the form of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Daniel James, Harry Maguire and Bruno Fernandes, while getting rid of players such as Alexis Sanchez, Romelu Lukaku, Marcos Rojo, among others.
Manchester United hadn’t been performing too well for the first half of the season but we have turned a corner in recent months, going on an 11-game unbeaten streak.
And Solskjaer is intent on carrying that momentum forward into next season. To that end, he is prepared to axe players who aren’t deemed fit for his vision (h/t Mirror).
The players who are facing uncertain futures at the club are Jesse Lingard, Andreas Pereira, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Alexis Sanchez (h/t MEN).
Lingard and Pereira had been regulars in Solskjaer’s teams for most of his tenure at the club but the academy duo has fallen down the pecking order in recent months.
Phil Jones has hardly featured for us this season and when he has, the Englishman has looked error-prone.
As far as Smalling and Sanchez are concerned, the duo are currently on loan, with the former keen on signing permanently for AS Roma, while the club are actively searching for potential buyers for the latter (h/t MEN).

Given that all revenue streams have been affected by the coronavirus crisis and the fact that our club are leading in pending transfer fee dues, Solskjaer will need to cut loose players that are not in his plans in order to bring in funds for his summer targets.
It will be interesting to see who of the aforementioned remains part of the club come next season.
