Phil Jones snubbed Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea to join Man United
Manchester United defender Phil Jones has revealed that he had offers from Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea, but snubbed them to join the Red Devils (h/t ManUtd.com).
After breaking through the Blackburn Rovers youth academy, Jones quickly established himself as one of the most sought-after young defenders in England.
And our club, under the guidance of Sir Alex Ferguson, acted swiftly to sign the 28-year-old from Rovers in 2011 for a reported transfer fee of £16m.
Jones has now gone on to reveal that our club weren’t the only ones interested in him, with our rivals Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea also making attempts to sign him (h/t ManUtd.com). Speaking to MUTV he said:
“I had offers from other clubs. I could have gone to a host of clubs: [Manchester] City, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and Everton.”
However, after a conversation with Sir Alex, the defender was left convinced of joining Manchester United (h/t ManUtd.com).
Jones, since joining our club in 2011, hasn’t been able to live up to the lofty expectations that were placed on him upon his arrival.
The 28-year-old has been quite unlucky with injuries, due to which he hasn’t been able to establish himself as a regular for most of his tenure at Old Trafford.

Till date, he has made 224 appearances for Manchester United. To put things into perspective, someone like Marcus Rashford, who broke through the first-team years after Jones joined us, has already made 201 appearances.
Jones is way down the pecking order at the club currently, with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer preferring Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, Eric Bailly and even the young Axel Tuanzebe ahead of him. As a result, the Englishman has made just eight appearances this season.
