Manchester United remain keen on signing Philippe Coutinho

According to Spanish publication Sport (h/t Express), Manchester United are still in the race to sign Barcelona star Philippe Coutinho.

The Brazilian, who is currently on loan at Bayern Munich, is likely to move on after failing to impress at the Camp Nou (h/t Express).

Premier League rivals Chelsea have already started discussions with the Catalans on signing the player. In spite of this, the Red Devils have not given up on the former Liverpool star (h/t Express).

Coutinho has had a mixed season in Germany so far. He has scored nine goals and eight assists in 32 appearances for Bayern. In spite of posting decent numbers, he has failed to impress enough to land a starting berth.

With the Germans not keen to make the deal permanent, Barcelona are left with no choice but to look for prospective suitors for the 27-year-old. Interest from the Premier League is high with Tottenham Hotspur and Everton also keeping tabs on the player (h/t Express).

But the transfer fee might prove to be a stumbling block as Barcelona are looking to recoup as muchof the £142 million they spent on him as they can (h/t Express).

But, with the player’s reputation taking a sound beating, the Catalans are willing to cut him loose for as much as £79 million (h/t Express).

Coutinho is a player who is familiar with the English game. He was a bonafide star at Liverpool before moving to La Liga.

In spite of him going through a slump, he remains a potent player and will give our midfield an almighty lift alongside Bruno Fernandes.

Whether he makes the move to Old Trafford or not remains to be seen. He does, however, present a very intriguing proposition, if we choose to take it.
