United needed to bolster their striking options after the injury to Marcus Rashford. The club were linked with a move to surprising names such as Islam Slimani and Odion Ighalo. It now looks like the list also included Brighton’s Murray.
Murray has had his chances limited at Brighton following the summer arrival of Neal Maupay.
A typical number 9, Murray’s experience would have given United a proven striker upfront.
The 33-year-old has made 17 appearances for Brighton this season with 12 of them coming off the bench. He has, however, scored just two goals all season. (h/t Whoscored)
Apart from United, Celtic, Newcastle and Aston Villa were among the sides interested in him during January.
United eventually managed to agree on a deal for former Watford striker Odion Ighalo from Chinese Super League side Shanghai Shenhua.

United have played it smart by getting in opting for a short term solution rather than pay over the odds for the wrong player.
The club can now regroup and come up with a transfer strategy for the summer transfer window.
