Manchester United make contact with AC Milan star Davide Calabria

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admitted after the humbling at Barcelona in the Champions League that the Red Devils have a big rebuilding job on their hands.

And Solskjaer seems to have already started plotting his summer transfer targets, with Manchester United having made contact with AC Milan right-back, Davide Calabria, report Calciomercato. But the Red Devils are set to face competition from Tottenham, who also have expressed an interest in the Italian, adds the report.

Veteran star Antonio Valencia will leave Old Trafford as a free agent this summer, while Diogo Dalot is yet to become a regular starter at our club. Ashley Young is currently the club’s first-choice right-back but our skipper clearly looks past his prime and cannot be trusted to continue for another season.

That makes signing a right-back in the summer an absolute necessity for Solskjaer. United are looking at Calabria, who is ‘enticed’ by our interest in him, claim the Italian news outlet. The Italian has been offered a new deal by Milan but Solskjaer’s team wants him to reject the proposal and move to Old Trafford instead.

Solskjaer should go for Davide Calabria

Calabria has been impressing for AC Milan so far this season and has become one of the most important players for Gennaro Gattuso’s team. Thus, they want to extend his contract beyond 2022 by the end of the season.

But United must firm up their interest in the Italian full-back. The 22-year-old is a fast, agile and technically-gifted player who can contribute equally to both defence and attack, making him an ideal fit to help revive our defence under Solskjaer.
