Manchester United are set to make a move for Diego Godin of Atletico Madrid, according to the Daily Star.
The club tried to sign the centre-back in the summer, according to the report, and Ed Woodward is ready to sign the deal.
The 32-year-old is one of the best in the world and has helped Atletico win La Liga in 2014. The defender also has a couple of Europa League titles under his belt during his spell with the Spaniards.
The report claims Woodward has had several rounds of discussion with Atletico over the transfer and is willing to shell out his £20m release clause.
The player is keen on a move to United, and Woodward is confident of sealing the deal in the winter window, as per the report.
United have a number of central defenders in the side but we have stuck with Victor Lindelof and Chris Smalling as our first-choice pairing.
Eric Bailly, Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo have struggled for game time and it will be interesting to see what happens to them in the winter window.
Godin would certainly make us a better defensive unit, however, signing a central defender who is 32 to play in the Premier League could be a bit of a risk taken by Jose Mourinho.
The Red Devils haven’t been great in defence this season and hopefully, we turn things around once the league resumes.
