Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has spoken to Ander Herrera and will put pressure on the board to ensure the Spaniard’s contract talks speed up, according to the Metro.
The report claims that Mourinho wants the player at United, who is out of contract at the end of the season. Herrera, for his part, is happy at Old Trafford but believes his loyalty has been taken for granted due to the slow nature of contract talks.
The former Athletic Bilbao earns £120,000-a-week (h/t Metro) but is not looking at a huge upgrade on his new deal.
The Spaniard has done well in recent games and even earned a start in our 2-1 win over Juventus in the Champions League.
Mourinho has assured the midfielder that he would get a lot more playing time at United, and will speak to the board to resolve the contract issue.
The 29-year-old has seen a lot of competition for the midfield slots but losing him on a free wouldn’t make a lot of sense.
Foreign clubs would be permitted to speak with the Spaniard and seal a deal in the January window. This would not be the first time Mourinho had stepped in to solve contractual issues.

The report claims that the manager leaves negotiations to the board but had to intervene as Marouane Fellaini was out of a contract at the end of last season before the Belgian extended his stay at Old Trafford.
