Jose Mourinho revealed that star midfielder Nemanja Matic would miss the start of the season after undergoing surgery for a problem he picked up at the World Cup.
Matic was a part of the Serbia squad that went out of the group stages and Mourinho was quoted by the Guardian after Manchester United’s 4-1 loss at the hands of Liverpool in the International Champions Cup.
“Matic is out for the start of the season. He came from the World Cup with an injury, and the time he had to rest was not enough to resolve the problem. He went to Philadelphia to a specialist and he had surgery immediately to try not to lose more time.”
This will come as a huge blow to us as we are without a number of players who took part in the latter stages of the World Cup.
The Premier League starts in less than a couple of weeks and Matic would have been a sure starter in the first game of the season.
It also comes as a bit of a surprise that the injury was not looked into earlier and what is worrying is that Mourinho has not explained what the injury is or how long it would take for the Serbian to return. As we saw in the pre-season clash, we do not have a lot of our players and that could be a blow.

Hopefully, we will have some sort of form in the next two weeks before the start of the season and kick off our campaign with all three points.
