Juan Mata scored a late goal for Manchester United to ensure we drew our first pre-season match. Club America certainly were a match for our side but we were without a host of first-team players.
A number of our stars are away after their excursions in the World Cup but we did get to see youngsters such as Andreas Pereira and Tahith Chong make an impact for Jose Mourinho’s men.
We also gave a run-out to Lee Grant and a number of other young players looking to make a name for themselves. It was United who had the best of the chances in the early exchanges as Mata hit the post while Anthony Martial also grazed the aluminium.
The Mexican side scored the opening goal of the game as Henry Martin headed the ball into the net. Mata then scored via a loose ball, shooting it past the keeper’s legs to give us the draw.
Chong was certainly the player that caught the eye while Martial didn’t do all that badly in the attack. This was just our first game of the pre-season and we will need some more time to get back to being a slick United side.
The United fans were certainly in full voice on Twitter as some of them were upset with the performance while others lavished praise on Chong.
I had never watched Chong play but today he was so impressive. This lad has a bright future. He looks like a type of player we were missing. But needs consistency.
