It was an emotional evening at Old Trafford as Michael Carrick bid farewell to his playing career after an illustrious time with Manchester United.
The Englishman would be joining the club’s coaching side and Jose Mourinho also added that he could see the former Spurs man become his assistant in the near future.
The match against Watford didn’t really have anything riding on it as we were guaranteed of 2nd place in the league table. The only goal of the game came via Carrick as he lofted a pass to Juan Mata who passed the ball to Marcus Rashford.
Carrick was replaced in the 85th minute to a standing ovation from the Old Trafford faithful and with the club looking to wrap up the FA Cup against Chelsea, we could have the perfect ramp for a real shot at the Premier League title next season.
Twitter was filled with reactions to not only the game but also Carrick and here are some of them.

End of an era. Carrick with one last hurrah with a phenomenal pass for the first, in classic Carrick style. Going to miss him. Came across in his speech really well as a genuine person, husband and father. One of football’s good guys. #mufc

A weird season comes to an end, started with a bang we were 4-0 fc then came the lfc game and pogba injury which derailed us. Beat city, lfc, arsenal, spurs and Chelsea lost to promoted sides. Slow football to end it. Hopefully we will be amazing next season. #GGMU #mufc
