Mesut Ozil is reportedly pushing for a move out of the club to work under Jose Mourinho

Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil is so desperate to join Manchester United that he would even accept the role of a substitute, according to reports. The 29-year-old could join Manchester United, with the Germany international’s time at the Emirates nearing an end.

German World Cup winner Ozil is keen on working under Jose Mourinho, who managed him for three years at Real Madrid between 2010 and 2013, where the playmaker enjoyed the best spell of his career.

Ozil is yet to pen a renewal at the Emirates and it’s still unclear as to whether he will opt to prolong his stay. With this in mind, United are supposedly preparing a bid in order to test the Gunners’ resolve.

The Red Devils would, of course, prefer to wait until the German is available for free in the summer, rather than pay an inflated sum in this window. However, the club would be wary of getting involved in a bidding war with the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich.

Manchester Evening News claims that the Arsenal star wants a move to Old Trafford and is ready to make a huge sacrifice to seal the deal. After a blistering start to the season, Henrikh Mkhitaryan has faded completely and there are suggestions that the Armenian could be shown the exit door at the end of the season.

“Come summer, though, the odds of seeing him at Old Trafford will increase since Ozil prefers to stay in the Premier League, especially after Barcelona signing Philippe Coutinho made the Camp Nou a less likely destination,” Amoyal told ESPN.

“Ozil has been linked to Juventus and Inter, but a move to Serie A is unlikely given his wage demands.”

Jesse Lingard’s rich vein of form lately has sparked hopes of the player becoming the club’s chief playmaker for the years to come but despite the academy graduate’s transformation, Mourinho remains keen to sign a new No.10. And the report suggests Ozil is willing to sacrifice first-team football to ensure he moves out of London and is desperate to join Mourinho’s Red army to challenge for silverware.

According to famous Italian journalist David Amoyal, Ozil’s desire to remain in the Premier League could now push him towards a switch to Old Trafford and a reunion with Mourinho.
