215 Clearances And 16 Blocks: Who Is This Polish Defender Manchester United Wants

A defender who is not only rock solid at the back, but is also a top notch goal getter is an asset for any team in the world, and Kamil Glick is certainly no exception to that. The 28 year old centreback is the captain of the Italian first division team Torino, and was the highest goalscoring defender in Europe last season. After modest spells in his homeland and Spain, with Horadda and Real Madrid ‘C’, he finally moved to Italy and caught the attention of current coach Giampiero Ventura during a spell on loan at Bari from the Rosanero, who ended up signing him for his current club 5 years ago. The fans consider him to be their God, and have appealed for him to even take penalties for the side.

Strengths:

Glik’s strengths primarily lie in his no nonsense tackling, and in his 36 Serie A appearances this season, Italian Serie A, he has won 35 tackles with a success rate of 43%, and has made 85 interceptions, 215 clearances and 16 blocks. The Polish footballer had equalled the record of goals in a single Serie A campaign for a Polish player last year, and although he is yet to replicate that form this year, he has created over 10 chances this season, and has an average pass accuracy of over 60%. Glik likes making forays into the midfield, and is a complete leader.

Weakness:

There is no apparent weakness in the player, but as it is with footballers who are firm fan favourites, they get carried away easily with the emotions. Moreover, Glik is yet to play in the highest levels, so we don’t know whether he is good enough to excel at the highest level.

Given how good Smalling and Blind has been for us this season, it is unlikely that Glik will be directly put into the first team. However, with Rojo and Jones both being inconsistent and injury prone, it would be clever on United’s part to buy a reliable, commanding centre back who is also, quite a character. The club had already showed interest in him last year, but the move didn’t materialize, and with Tottenham and Newcastle both monitoring him, it will be interesting if we do show confirmed interest in him.

Transfer feasibility: 6/10
