January transfer window is a curious opportunity for any club. Some bolster their shortcomings that they could not fill in the summer, some sack their manager for not performing, some back their managers with more money to push for the target of the season.

Manchester United seems to be in two minds. ESPN and Mirror has reported that United officials have put their transfer plans on hold because the management is just not sure what is going to happen. Louis Van Gaal was on the brink of getting fired after a dismal performance in November and December but wins over Swansea and Liverpool seems to have saved his neck for the time being.

Even though things seemed to have improved with a resurgent Wayne Rooney in the team, Louis Van Gaal’s future is still in doubt. United are not willing to fire him at this juncture and also seems not totally convinced of his ability to steer the club to the summit or Premier League following yet another defeat at the hands of Southampton at Old Trafford. As a result United most likely will not be spending big money in the winter.
