Manchester United Back In For Barcelona Target Marquinhos: Should They Be Aiming Higher?

David Luiz’s transfer to Paris Saint Germain has Manchester United on alert, as it is believed that another talented Brazilian defender will be on his was out of Paris.

The Express reports that Manchester United will target Brazilian centre-back Marquinhos to replace departing veterans Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand.

With the arrival of his compatriot, it is expected that the 20 year-old will seek a move away from the Parc des Princes in search of regular first-team action.

Marquinhos had been a target for United when he broke into the first-team at Roma, but they lost out in a transfer tussle with big spending Paris Saint Germain.

This time around they will battle Spanish giants Barcelona for the defender’s signature, as they look to replace legendary Captain Carles Puyol.

Marquinhos has been in and out of the team this year for Paris Saint Germain, but in his 21 league appearances, he won an impressive 70% of his aerial battles (Squawka).

I agree that he is talented and could one day be one of the best defenders in the world, but at 20 he has a lot to learn and at Manchester United he won’t have that time.

Louis van Gaal has said that he thinks it will take a maximum of two years to get United back competing at the top level again.

For me he will be looking for experienced, international defenders to steady the ship like Borussia Dortmund’s Mats Hummels.

And I can tell you, if United hesitate for a moment, Barcelona will have him signed, sealed and holding a shirt in Catalonia in no time.
