Welbeck Heading For The Exit Won’t Bother van Gaal: Here’s Why

England striker Danny Welbeck may look for a move away from Manchester United, in search of a regular starting place and a central striking role. He won’t be missed.

The Guardian reports that the 23 year-old forward is looking for a change of scenery, after what he called his ‘unhappiest season’.

Welbeck had reportedly fallen out with David Moyes during his reign because of his lack of pitch time and use as a left midfielder. He’s right to think things won’t be different under van Gaal.

Welbeck is another who has come through the famous Manchester United youth system, having been at the club since 2001 and making his senior debut in 2008.

However, he has struggled to nailed down a starting place and make a real impact in the first team. Much like his fellow academy graduate Tom Cleverley.

Despite being stuck out on the left, Welbeck’s statistics for the season aren’t that bad. In his 25 appearances he scored nine goals and provided one assist (Squawka).

For a lot of United fans, there is a desire for Welbeck to do well, but to be a Manchester United striker, you need to score more than 20 goals in 90 games.

Under van Gaal it is obvious that Robin van Persie will lead the line for United and Wayne Rooney will play there in the Dutchman’s absence.

The former Bayern Munich boss also expects all of his players to be at a certain level technically, one that Welbeck is most certainly not.

A move to another Premier League club could see him flourish, perhaps Tottenham or Newcastle United. But for me his long-term future lies away from Old Trafford.
