Why Manchester United Should Look To Ivan Rakitic To Solve Their Midfield Dilemma

With the lack of creativity in the midfield for Manchester United, if their pursuit of German midfielder Toni Kroos doesn’t work out, I have a more than adequate suggestion.

Ivan Rakitic. Sevilla’s Captain and star player is at the heart of anything and everything good that Sevilla do on the pitch.

Sevilla’s manager Unai Emery has built the team around Rakitic and bought two low budget but effective forwards to play in front of the Croatian playmaker in Carlos Bacca and Kevin Gameiro.

If a reasonable bid for Rakitic comes in there is not much the club can do to stop their talisman leaving, as Sevilla need to sell on their star players in order to buy. For example, Jesus Navas and Alvaro Negredo.

Rakitic has looked different class this season in La Liga with his 12 goals and 10 assists from midfield and in 14 Europa League appearances he created 30 chances for teammates. (Squawka)

The two and a half years he has spent in Andalusia has seen him develop, from a player who left Schalke for €2.5 million into, in my opinion, the best player in Spain outside of the top three clubs.

Unfortunately, for Manchester United they will have to spend a lot more than that to get him to Old Trafford, somewhere in the region of €30 million, but he would be well worth the cost.

Rakitic has it all, stamina, a burst of pace, dead ball delivery, brilliant control, great vision, passing and shooting. He is an all-round midfield talent.

If United were interested I would suggest sorting a deal out before the World Cup, because his price is likely to soar after the tournament.
