Alex Song – a Cameroon international who is adored by Arsenal fans after his seven year stint at the club. He managed over 200 games for the Gunners during his time in north London though was not rewarded in silverware – he was part of the squads that failed in the Champions League final in 2005-06 and the League Cup twice. However, it’s not Arsenal that are being linked with him, it’s Manchester United.
But where would he fit in if David Moyes was able to capture his signature?
Song is a central midfield player who likes things to be done simply. Rather than spraying the ball the length of the pitch or into the wings like Michael Carrick, Song opts for the short pass more often than not.
This season he has 16 appearances to his name between La Liga and the Champions League and has completed 91% of his passes.
He has a steady understanding of the game in a way that lets him stay one step ahead of his opponent and as a result he makes a huge number of interceptions.
For me I would like to see him come into the club. He is an experienced player with a touch of class and we saw how well he worked with van Persie when the pair were at the Emirates.
