Manchester United fans were feeling sick in the aftermath of the final minutes of the last day of the Premier League and understandably so as Manchester City claimed the title in unbelievable circumstances.
On the same day Arsenal were gifted a 3-2 win over West Brom in Roy Hodgson’s final game in charge of the midland-side thanks to some calamitous goalkeeping from Martin Fulop – who incidentally is a former Man City player, for those who wanted to know that.
The win secured Arsenal third place in the table and Champions League football above bitter-rivals Spurs who had to make do with fourth place and a place in the Champions League qualifying round place…
..Or so they thought as Chelsea went and beat Bayern Munich cruelly consigning Spurs to the Europa League. Of course since then Harry Redknapp’s left Spurs to be replaced by that dashing young amigo Andre Villas-Boas who has swooped to sign Gylffi Siggurdson right of the noses of Liverpool and Swansea City.
Arsenal fans were taking the mickey out of Spurs fans last night saying that they’d employed a ‘Chelsea reject’ who couldn’t hack it in England despite being the right man at the wrong time when he was appointed last year by Roman Ambramovich.
Now though with today’s announcement that Robin van Persie will not be extending his contract at Arsenal and that if rumours are to believe he is on his way to Man City, Arsenal fans must be dreading next season.
They should think on the positive though. They can get the best part of £25-30m for RVP now (at least that’s what they should do) buy the talent whilst they can as they might not be able to bring in the big-names next season if they are playing in the Europa League, which is a competition that but for Fulop’s howlers they would be participating in this coming season.
Isn’t football a small world afterall.
