United Grab Elusive Ticket To Last 16 Of Champions League

Tonight Manchester United won in grand fashion to defeat Braga and seal their passage through to the Last 16 of the Champions League.

Once again though they had to come back from a 1-0 deficit after a sluggish effort from the team, which enabled Braga to get on-top of the game as United worryingly failed to get out of first-gear for large portions of the game.

However one player that did meet the test was Javier Hernandez who is continuing to improve game-by-game this season. He has scored in his last four games now and his continuing improvement has really given Sir Alex Ferguson a problem over who starts up-front.

So far though, Sir Alex has dealt with such selection problems well, seeing that positive results have been coming. However not everything with the team has gone plain sailing.

At the back the defence have been making mistakes. The returning Chris Smalling had a bad game and he didn’t look really in any form of control, especially when coming up against Braga’s forward Alan who scored their penalty.

Aside from Hernandez, the strikers continue to improve and right-now it looks as if nobody can stop the duo of Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie, who are building a frightening looking partnership up-top.

In the end United have that elusive ticket through to the Last 16, which is a massive step ahead from last year when we didn’t even make it out of what looked like an easy group. There is and always will be room for improvement.

That room certainly is in the defence and conceding first in games, especially early goals. However let’s not be too disappointed, the first step on the way to a fourth European Cup has been completed. Now the hard-work begins!

  1. I actually thought Smalling was safe, secure and solid. Evans seemed out of sorts though and so SAF replaced him with Rio who also looked regal.

One of our better defensive displays in my opinion.
