Manchester United are possibly targeting a move for Harry Kane next summer
Manchester United made some big and expensive signings in the summer transfer window. The club added Benjamin Šeško from RB Leipzig for around €76.5 million, Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford for roughly €75 million, and Matheus Cunha from Wolves for about €74.2 million, triggering the Brazilian’s release clause to sign him.
Meanwhile, Rasmus Højlund left on loan to Napoli, and Marcus Rashford joined Barcelona on loan. Interestingly, reports revealed that Manchester United could revisit a January 2026 move for Carlos Baleba, which means United could look to strengthen their midfield in January.
The Harry Kane question
Manchester United still want Harry Kane after heavy spending in the summer. The Englishman moved from Tottenham Hotspur to Bayern Munich and continues to perform consistently at the highest level. Meanwhile, Bild reported that Kane can leave next summer for £57 million if he confirms his intention to move by January. However, the Daily Star noted that Tottenham might try to bring back their former star, so even if the Red Devils want to sign the Bayern Munich striker, they will face competition from their Premier League rivals.
Should United go for Kane?

Kane provides guaranteed goals, links up well with midfielders, and has a wealth of experience at the top level. If United sign the England striker, they will add unmatched quality to their squad. However, some critics argue that Kane does not always bring his A game in big matches. He tends to drift into midfield, which can crowd Bruno Fernandes’s space and disrupt Amorim’s structure. Even so, the Bayern Munich forward remains prolific at 32 years old and would be a short-term fix at considerable cost.
Considering his past valuations, the £57 million price tag is still low, but it remains a hefty amount for a player in the twilight of his career. If United do sign him, it could stall the progress of their young striker, Šeško. The Slovenian needs consistent game time to develop into a world-class forward for the Red Devils. Moreover, Kane is slower now, and Amorim’s emphasis on energy and fluid movement might not suit his traits.
United might benefit more from targeting a forward with greater longevity and a profile that fits Amorim’s tactical approach. Meanwhile, reports revealed that Manchester United could move for another goalkeeper in 2026 despite Senne Lammens’s acquisition, showing how recruitment plans remain wide-ranging. While Kane’s return to England would excite fans, the club may benefit more by showing patience and balancing short-term ambition with long-term planning.
