Ruud van Nistelrooy leaves Man United after an impressive charge that saw the Red Devils lose not one game under him.
Between him and Ole Gunnar Solskjær, it’s fair to say that United love an interim trip led by one of their beloved forwards of yesteryears.
But the Dutchman made sure he didn’t leave without saying a proper good-bye.
Ruud van Nistelrooy pens emotional social media message for Man United fans after Old Trafford exit
Ruud van Nistelrooy addressed the Man United fanbase with a message on social media after it was confirmed that the Dutch coach would not be continuing at the club after the arrival of Rúben Amorim and his coaching staff.
“To everyone at Manchester United Football Club, in particular the backroom staff, the players and the fans. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your incredible efforts and support.
“It has been a privilege and honour to represent the club as a player, coach and manager, and I will always cherish the memories we have shared together.
“Manchester United will always have a special place in my heart, and I hope there are many more glory days at Old Trafford very soon – not only because I want the club to do well, but because you all deserve it! All the best and take care, Ruud.”
Van Nistelrooy, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News.
United won three and drew one game under the interim charge of Van Nistelrooy, who in his playing days represented United 219 times, delivering 150 goals and 29 assists.
It was the right call
With Van Nistelrooy looking to continue trying his luck at coaching, and the quick turnover of manager in modern-day football, we simply cannot rule out the possibility of the Dutchman returning to the club as a full-time coach in the future.
For the time being, though, moving him on was the right thing to do. Fans tend to get riled up with nostalgia and love for a veritable legends, but the sporting hierarchy at United do not have the luxury of indulging in such romance, especially when it has played a major role in the club’s decline over the past decade.
Amorim has been handed a clean slate, and that’s a good thing. Van Nistelrooy, on the other hand, has established himself into the limelight of English football once again, especially after his not-too-bad interim stint at Old Trafford, and could very well become a star coach in a few years’ time. It’s a win-win outcome for everyone involved.
