Rúben Amorim’s last game as Sporting CP boss was against Braga, the club he left to join Sporting in the first place.
It could not have been a better ending for Portugal’s most sought-after young manager, but he has now taken up a challenge that has swatted aside many a talent.
Rúben Amorim speaks in his first interview since becoming Man United head coach
Speaking in his first interview after leaving Sporting CP, new Man United head coach Rúben Amorim spoke to MUTV while most of his squad is away on international duty.
“You watch on TV and you know that it’s big [Old Trafford] and it’s impressive, but when you are here you can feel it and I think you feel the history.
“I’m really, really proud to be a Manchester United coach, so it’s amazing. It’s a real honour to be here.
“That’s really funny because I feel very relaxed [when the interviewer said there was a “weight to the place but it does lift you up”]. Maybe because its not gameday, when we have a game I’m a different guy but I really don’t feel the weight. I’m really excited and I’m quite relaxed you know. I think I am where I am supposed to be. That’s the feeling.”

Amorim’s first game in charge of the Red Devils is set to be a Premier League affair away at Ipswich Town on Sunday, November 24.
Communication and adaptability will be key for Amorim
One major issue with Erik ten Hag was his inability to express what he was trying to achieve on the pitch to the public by virtue of both his words and his football. This is something Amorim will need to be wary of. A clear understanding on the footballing front will only buy him more support.
Adaptability is another key thing. Ever since his appointment we have been inundated with content explaining his 3-4-3 principles, and while we can expect him to stick to them at United, one expects at least some tweaks to not only suit the system better for his new set of players but also for the new challenge he has embarked upon.
Amorim is now the face of a new United era. Expectations are sky high of him and little quarter will be offered. He will need to figure out how to swim right away, regardless of whether the methods he uses are of his liking or not. Football is an unforgiving business, the Premier League is a glaring example of it, and Man United are one of its most volatile participants.
Good luck, Rúben.
