La Liga side failed in last minute approach for Manchester United star in the summer window.

Christian Eriksen was transfer-listed in the summer. He has since had a fair bit of upturn in form during a bad time for Red Devils that has seen them dismiss Erik ten Hag.

Currently on international duty with Denmark, Eriksen discussed his future in Manchester.

Speaking ahead of Denmark’s UEFA Nations League game against Spain, Man United midfielder Christian Eriksen discussed his future at Old Trafford.

“I haven’t focused on it yet, and I haven’t heard anything from the club

“Right now it’s just about football, and then we have to see where we stand in January and for that matter in the summer.”

Eriksen, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News.

Having been on the market in the summer, Eriksen has gone on to have a rather productive opening months of the season under Erik ten Hag, though his future at the club remains tenuous as best after Rúben Amorim’s arrival.

The Denmark international, who delivered four goals and three assists in 13 games for United this season across all competitions, turns 33 in February and is in the final year of his £150k-per-week contract.

United will reportedly be ready once again to listen to offers for Eriksen in the January transfer window.

The time is right

If Amorim’s 3-4-3 at Sporting is anything to go by, there’s a very good chance Eriksen will find himself on the fringes of his team.

That said, the new coach will obviously want to see all the players at his disposal first hand, and since he does want at least one decent on-ball operator in his midfield pivot, he may at least choose to have Eriksen on board for this season, especially given his recent form.

But it wouldn’t be unwise for United to simply move him on come summer, or ever in winter if a good offer comes for him. Eriksen joined United on a free transfer at a time they needed him and he needed them, and he definitely has enough quality left in him to operate at the upper echelons of professional football for a while longer, though United ought to do some housecleaning in the coming months and Eriksen can be expected to be on the chopping block.
