Man United already have a new lease of life thanks to an upturn in form under interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy.
Things are as stable as can be mid-season at Man United for the new boss, and the team captain cannot wait to get going.
Bruno Fernandes excited to play under Rúben Amorim
Speaking while away on international duty, Man United midfielder Bruno Fernandes expressed his excitement regarding playing under his new coach, Rúben Amorim.
“We hope that he can come and this is the right moment for him to come and bring his energy, bring his qualities and his knowledge of football, because he’s done something really, really special at Sporting.
“Hopefully he can do the same here for us and [hopefully] it’s going to be a successful time for all of us. He’s a really smart manager that has done really good things for Sporting tactically – it’s really good, what I’ve seen from the games for Sporting.
“But obviously you can’t bring or transform what he has done at Sporting into here, because you have different players, you have different ways of play and everything.
“I’m pretty sure that the idea of football he has, independent of the way he wants to play, is going to be a good one and it’s going to bring us success. That’s what I hope and I’m pretty sure that (is what) he hopes too.”
Fernandes, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News.
It has been business as usual for the United captain on an individual level despite a horrid run for the team that has seen the Red Devils dismiss Erik ten Hag to bring in Fernandes’ compatriot Amorim in as the new head coach.
The 30-year-old has four goals and seven assists from 17 games for United under all competitions.
Interesting to see where Fernandes will play under Amorim
Even as he continues delivering the big numbers, in recent years reasonable arguments have been made regarding whether Fernandes’ omission from the team could help the collective, though taking his goals and assists out as well is a big, big risk which understandably many have not dared to take.
Under Amorim, if we are to assume that he will stick with his 3-4-3 principles that helped him succeed at Sporting, it will be interesting to see where Fernandes gets to operate. While it’s unlikely he will be made to sit in the midfield pivot, he could reasonably play a role in any of the front three slots.
