Manchester United did not hesitate to open their money vault and spend a massive amount with a major focus on building a solid defence. While the club brought Matthijs De Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich, they did not hesitate to spend £59 million on roping in the young defender Leny Yoro from Lille.
However, things did not go as planned because Yoro suffered a highly complicated fracture in United’s pre-season friendly against Arsenal, which expelled him from his new team for a healthy amount of time.
As United has already suffered heavily due to their sloppy defence this season, it is pretty evident that they need the young French footballer back as soon as possible.
Erik Ten Hag gives update on Leny Yoro
As United now gears up to take on Aston Villa in their forthcoming Premier League encounter, manager Erik Ten Hag has given a major update on Yoro’s ongoing rehabilitation and potential comeback. However, the Dutchman did not reveal the exact date of the former Lille defender’s comeback, he cleared that they expect him to be back very soon.
“It is very pleasing that his rehab is going in the right direction and I expect him soon, but what I mean by soon, is that he is now in the right planning process. He is in the right spot and he will return as soon as possible into the squad and then the team training.”
Currently earning around £115,000 per week, Yoro is yet to make his first competitive football appearance for his new club. While the fans and team eagerly wait for him, it is likely to be considered that the 18-year-old will join the squad either in November or December.
A product of Lille’s youth academy, Yoro played a total of 60 games for his former club across all the competitions, in which he scored three goals and an assist.
He is one of the highly regarded players in the United camp, and his comeback will undeniably give his team the much-needed strength in their backline.
Coming back to United’s prospects, after a hard-fought 3-3 draw against Porto in their recent Europa League 2024/25 fixture, they now tie their laces up to travel to Birmingham, where they will face Aston Villa.
It would be exciting to see which players will be able to make it to the starting XI of the Men in Reds, as they head for a crucial encounter at the Villa Park.
