Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen has entered the final year of his contract
Manchester United star Christian Eriksen was heavily linked with a return to former club Ajax in the final weeks of the summer transfer window but he remained at Old Trafford.
The Denmark international arrived at Manchester United on a free transfer from Brentford in the summer of 2022. He had a strong debut season with Erik ten Hag’s side, winning the Carabao Cup. However, the creative midfielder struggled to impose himself during the previous campaign, just like most of his teammates, as the Red Devils endured the worst finish in the Premier League era under Erik ten Hag.
Christian Eriksen is now into the final year of his £150,000-per-week contract at the Theatre of Dreams (Transfermarkt) but is unlikely to be offered an extension by INEOS. This means Man United run the risk of losing him on a free transfer next summer unless the midfielder is sold in January.
According to a report from GIVEMESPORT, Eriksen is set to remain at Old Trafford for the rest of the season even if it means losing him for nothing in the summer of 2025.
The Dane is no longer viewed as a regular starter at the club since the emergence of Kobbie Mainoo in the second half of last season coupled with the £50.5million acquisition of Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain on the past summer transfer window’s deadline day. Despite injuries in the middle of the park, he only managed 12 Premier League starts.
The 32-year-old was handed his first start of the season during Man United’s 3-0 win at Southampton last weekend, and he followed it up with a dazzling display in the 7-0 rout of Barnsley in the Carabao Cup third round at Old Trafford on Tuesday evening.
The aforementioned report adds that insiders at the club have revealed that Eriksen is still viewed as an important member of the squad and will be given opportunities by Ten Hag over the course of the campaign, unless the playmaker decides he wants to leave in the January transfer window.

Following the arrival of Ugarte, the Middelfart-born ace has slipped further down the midfield pecking order. However, Eriksen has still shown he has gas left in his tank by running the show against Southampton and Barnsley, and while the opposition may not be deemed of the highest level, the veteran midfielder still has it in him and will be a crucial squad option for Ten Hag.
That being said, we do think this will most likely be Eriksen’s final season at Man United.
