Manchester United icon namedrops two Ten Hag favourites who are 'not good enough'.

Manchester United currently stand as one of the most criticized teams in European football. The notable club has created a streak of flop signings, and stupid releases and facing a loss of £113.3m in their net accounts this year.

Moreover, nothing is going well for them in this ongoing season of the Premier League as they currently stand at the 14th position, gaining just three points in their first three games.

As Erik Ten Hag and co. gear up to make a firm and strong comeback in their upcoming league fixture against Southampton on September 14, one of the club’s former star players has underscored the club’s two disastrous signings which according to him are useless.

Paul Scholes raises eyebrows on United’s signing Andre Onana and Matthijs de Ligt

Former Manchester United Paul Scholes has raised questions on the Manchester-based-club signings Andre Onana and Matthijs de Ligt. The 49-year-old clearly stated that both of the above-mentioned players don’t align with the club’s style of playing the ball out from the back.

Speaking on Stick to Football podcast, the former English international mentioned:

“I think Ten Hag actually wants to do it a bit with bringing that ‘keeper [Onana] in and De Ligt, but they’re still not good enough at doing it and they end up just booting it anyway.”

It is worth noting that both Onana and De Ligt have previously played under the managerial regime of Ten Hag at the Eredivisie club Ajax. While the former Internazionale goalkeeper is earning £120,000k-per-week, the former Bayern Munich defender is getting around £195,000k in his pocket every week at Old Trafford.

However, it is too early to say that both of these players do not align with the club’s style of play as De Ligt has only made three appearances for the club so far and is yet to get a proper fit in the squad’s dynamics.

On the contrary, Onana, despite being a complete flop this season till now, has the ability and he has shown it many times when the club needed him.

A lot will depend on how these players unfold themselves in the upcoming phase of European football and what role they will play in their club’s upliftment. It is pretty clear that Ten Hag is under immense pressure and it would be a matter of question how the Dutch deal with this situation and take the club forward.
