Piers Morgan slams Erik ten Hag for Manchester United - Cristiano Ronaldo mishap

Cristiano Ronaldo is once again in the limelight following his record-breaking 900 goals that he scored against Croatia in the UEFA Nations League qualifiers. The phenomenal achievement undeniably established him as one of the most prestigious footballers of all time.

The 39-year-old, who failed to put a single ball into the net in the UEFA Euro 2024 was put under heavy criticism from fans and football pundits. But the Portuguese, defying the odds came back with a very strong reply to silence everyone.

Amid the ongoing developments, renowned journalist Piers Morgan came up with an opinion that the Al-Nassr striker has still got what it takes to rank him as one of the best strikers of football, not just in his prime but in current times as well.

Not just this, Morgan also came up with his views on Manchester United’s current manager Erik Ten Hag who is widely regarded as one of the prime reasons why Ronaldo terminated his contract with Manchester United and headed to Saudi Arabia.

Piers Morgan slams Erik Ten Hag for Ronaldo’s drastic exit from Manchester United

Morgan heavily criticized United’s current manager, categorizing him as an ‘idiot’ for his out-of-the-box decisions and his unprofessional approach to handling top-notch players.

He moved way further to term the former Ajax manager a ‘bossy school teacher’ who does not know how to handle world-class academic talents, seeing the examples of Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford apart from Ronaldo. Speaking to talkSPORT Breakfast, when he was asked why Manchester United let him go if that was the case, Morgan blasted out:

“Because Ten Hag is a complete idiot. I’m sorry, he is. He has been since he went there, right? He talks in complete gibberish. He’s now banging on about Harry Potter or something. Ten Hag is everything Ronaldo told me he was in that interview, which led to him leaving United.”

“The biggest problem with Ten Hag, he’s like that bossy little school teacher you get who doesn’t know how to handle supreme academic talent. So you look at the players he’s been unable to handle at United. Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford. It’s all the top players”.

It should be noted that Morgan’s 2022 interview with Ronaldo caused a sensation, where the footballer levelled severe criticisms at the club and the coach, ultimately resulting in the mutual termination of his contract with the English football powerhouse.

Morgan did not forget to mention that if Ronaldo had stayed with the Premier League club, he would have undeniably delivered a lot more than any of the other strikers that they currently have in their ranks.

“So Cristiano Ronaldo, had he stayed at Manchester United, would have been immeasurably better than any of the strikers they’ve currently got as he’s proving for Portugal”

Having Ronaldo at Old Trafford would give United continued leadership and a winning edge but it may also have caused problems tactically for the side. The Al-Nassr athlete poses problems in that he plays more like an isolated goal scorer than ever before and less as part of the team, which would have flown right against Ten Hag’s pressing philosophy.

On one hand, the 39-year-old would undoubtedly have contributed many goals, but his presence could be a double-edged sword in the dressing room, potentially boosting morale and inspiring some to excel, while simultaneously causing disruption for others. Thus, there is no point in contemplating his departure in hindsight.
