Manchester United’s lacklustre start to the Premier League season has put them in the spotlight, as the club faces heavy criticism from both fans and pundits. Their recent 3-0 defeat against Liverpool has only intensified the scrutiny, raising serious questions about the team’s performance and Erik Ten Hag’s management.
Amid the ongoing buzz, one of United’s fan-favorite strikers has come under fire from legendary footballer Alan Shearer. Shearer delivered blunt and harsh criticism, addressing the striker’s prolonged struggle with form. The English forward, who was once seen as a key player, has been going through a difficult period, with his inability to find consistency now drawing the attention of critics like Shearer.
The pressure is mounting on both the player and the team to turn things around, with United needing a swift response to avoid further disappointment in this campaign.
Alan Shearer has some harsh words for Marcus Rashford
Premier League all-time top scorer Alan Shearer (260 goals) via Betfair, has recently shared his thoughts on Marcus Rashford’s ongoing struggles to find the form he was once admired for.
Notably, Rashford was left out of England’s senior men’s squad for their upcoming matches against Finland and Greece, as well as missing out on a place in the Euro 2024 squad.
Shearer expressed concern over the United youth product, stating that Rashford is unlikely to regain his international spot if his current form persists. The former Newcastle legend emphasized the importance of hard training and maintaining the right attitude as key factors for Rashford to rediscover his best form.
Additionally, Shearer controversially suggested that Rashford should have left Manchester United, remarking that the forward has become more “static” with time, implying that a change of scenery might have been beneficial for his development.
“In his current form, I don’t see Marcus Rashford reviving his England career. I personally don’t know his mentality, or what his approach is in terms of training, but there’s only one way back, which is to train and have the right attitude.
“But looking from the outside, for me, he should have left Man United to reignite his career because he’s gone very static for whatever reason, and it hasn’t worked for him for a while now. Only Marcus can answer how much he wants to get back to scoring 30 goals a season.”
Joining the senior ranks of the English giants back in 2016 from the youth wing, Rashford has so far made a total of 406 appearances for the club across all competitions, scoring 132 goals and 68 assists. He is considered a key player in the club’s attacking ranks and could play an instrumental role in shaping the club’s destiny this season.
However, it would be exciting to watch whether the left-winger could rise and bring back the stellar gameplay on display again, for which is known.
