32-year-old Manchester United star's agents put an end to Eredivisie speculations

Christian Eriksen’s agent pours cold water on transfer speculation about a possible move back to Ajax

Manchester United enjoyed an extremely productive summer transfer window—the first transfer window under co-owners INEOS.

INEOS—spearheaded by British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe—have addressed the key shortcomings of Erik ten Hag’s squad that ended up eighth in the table—the worst-possible finish in the Premier League era last season.

The acquisitions of Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, Noussair Mazraoui, Manuel Ugarte and Sekou Kone show a shift in transfer strategy and recruitment from buying readymade superstars under the Glazers family. Not only did the Red Devils make smart investments, but they also managed to shift the majority of the deadwood off their books.

Christian Eriksen was supposedly deemed surplus to requirements for Erik ten Hag heading into the summer transfer window. One imagines Manchester United would have been happy to let him leave if a suitable offer arrived, but it didn’t.

A move back to Ajax was touted as a possible destination for the Dane in the final weeks of the European summer transfer window. Rumours of Ajax re-signing Christian Eriksen have been rife as the transfer window remains open in the Netherlands, Belgium, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and a few more nations. However, the 32-year-old’s agent has poured cold water on transfer speculation about a possible move to Ajax.

“We can end those speculations,” Eriksen’s agent Martin Schoots told Dutch news outlet Voetbal International on Monday.

Eriksen has no longer been a regular starter for Man United since the emergence of Kobbie Mainoo in November 2023. The creative midfielder struggled to replicate his debut season’s performances last term for Ten Hag’s side, with his age catching up.

Manchester United didn’t receive any concrete offers for Christian Eriksen

At 32, the Denmark international is no longer the force he once was during his peak. Yet, he can be still counted on to close out games and provide creativity from deep to unlock well-oiled defences. With Eriksen into the final year of his contract (Trasnfermarkt), the Red Devils would have liked to cash him in rather than lose on a free transfer in the summer of 2025.

However, Mason Mount’s hamstring injury has seemingly changed the club’s plans, forcing them to hold onto Eriksen now. The Middelfart-born talent will now be able to negotiate with foreign clubs over a pre-contract agreement from January onward, which means that Man United are now likely to lose the 32-year-old for free.

Nonetheless, INEOS’ decision regarding Eriksen is the right one as the last thing our under-fire gaffer needs is to be left short in key areas of the squad.
