Manchester United open negotiations with representatives of Fluminense midfielder Andre Trindade
Manchester United have signed Leny Yoro, Joshua Zirkzee, Matthijs De Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui in this summer transfer window so far. They are chasing a No.6 and have made Paris Saint-Germain star Manuel Ugarte their No.1 priority.
Negotiations between the Red Devils and PSG for Manuel Ugarte have been going on for quite a while now. And after intense negotiations for over a month now, Manchester United and PSG are close to a €60 million agreement for the Uruguay international.
Minute details remain to be ironed out but both parties remain confident that the operation will be complete before the August 30 transfer deadline. In a separate deal from Ugarte, it seems the Erik ten Hag-managed club are also working on another midfield addition.
According to a report from TNT Sports, Manchester United are interested in signing Fluminense midfielder Andre Trindade. In addition to the Red Devils, Wolverhampton Wanderers are also keen on him. While negotiations are taking place between the midfielder’s representatives and clubs, Fluminense are yet to receive an offer from either club.
Andre Trindade has been heavily linked with a switch to the Premier League since last year, with Man United, Fulham and Liverpool all trying their best to land him. Finally, it looked like a transfer to the Premier League would happen at the start of August, but talks between Fulham and Fluminense broke down.
Surprisingly, Man United remain keen on doing a deal for the Brazil international, who is a defensive midfielder by trade just like Ugarte. However, both Andre and Ugarte are very different stylistically and in terms of profile. Ugarte is a combative midfielder—a tenacious tackler, highly energetic, and eats up a lot of ground. Andre, on the other hand, is more of an anchor—extremely composed on the ball, press-resistant, can drive with the ball and decent in breaking up play.
As a pair, the duo could work out in the middle of the park for Ten Hag’s side. However, given that Kobbie Mainoo has already cemented his place in the starting XI, the potential acquisition of Andre could supposedly be as a backup to Ugarte.
The 20-time English champions are close to thrashing out a deal for Ugarte having made him their No.1 midfield target this summer, so it is quite obvious if Andre is to join Ten Hag’s club, he’d be seen as someone who raises the ceiling of the squad.

However, there are no qualms that the Fluminense man is a classy midfielder who can actually become an ideal partner for Mainoo in Ten Hag’s system. He has the skill set to replace Casemiro and help Man United control games more, something Ugarte as a lone No.6 may struggle to do. That being said, if our club can strike a late double swoop for Ugarte and Andre, INEOS’ first transfer window will be rated as a solid 9/10.
