Manchester United struggle to offload £150,000 per week star

Christian Eriksen

Manchester United are offloading fringe players to adhere to the financial fair play rules and reduce their massive wage budget. The process also allows them to make space for the players they want to sign who can help the manager.

United manager Erik ten Hag has already signed numerous players for the first-team this summer including Fulham’s matchwinner Joshua Zirkzee. The other new signings he acquired are Leny Yoro, Noussair Mazraoui and Matthijs de Ligt to fix other vulnerable positions.

Man United are still active in the transfer market to bolster their squad further before the transfer deadline day ends. At the same time, there are many fringe players who are surplus to Ten Hag’s requirements and need to leave.

Christian Eriksen and Erik ten Hag

Christian Eriksen is one of the high-profile players in the squad who has fallen down the pecking order at United. The Denmark international and his United teammate Casemiro struggled to form a good partnership last season due to their age.

Many oppositions exposed the lack of energy and pace between the two by continuously targeting the open spaces around them. According to The Athletic (via Fichajes), United want to offload Eriksen during the summer but finances play a big obstacle.

While United are eager to offload Eriksen at any amount, no club wants to match his £150,000 per week salary. Eriksen’s former club Ajax are also unable to match his wage demand due to the financial problems they are facing.

It is clear that Ten Hag wants to keep only one of Casemiro and Eriksen in his squad. The Brazilian is ahead of Eriksen in the pecking order despite facing more scrutiny than

the Danish player last season.
