Manchester United closing in on signing €60 million worth Mainoo’s partner

Manuel Ugarte

Manchester United have started the season with a 1-0 victory over Fulham in the opening Premier League game this summer. Their new signing Joshua Zirkzee provided a crucial winner after guiding a cross from Alejandro Garnacho with an instinctive tough.

However, the Red Devils struggled to break Fulham down for the most part of the game as the visitors threatened. United manager Erik ten Hag is still building the squad for the next season as United works in the market.

The Red Devils have signed Leny Yoro, Zirkzee, Matthijs De Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui in this transfer window so far. They are chasing a number-six to play alongside youngster Kobbie Mainoo in a double pivot role as the main partnership.

United have highlighted Paris Saint-Germain defensive midfielder Manuel Ugarte as the perfect partner for Mainoo for next season’s campaign. The Uruguay international will offer more energy, stamina and defensive qualities than the player that the Red Devils currently possess.

According to the French publication Le Parisien, Man United and PSG are close to a €60 million agreement for Ugarte. PSG signed the 23-year-old last summer from Sporting Lisbon for a €60 million deal and wants to recoup their expenditure.

Despite starting his career brilliantly with the French giants, the Uruguayan quickly found himself squeezed out of the starting eleven. PSG have a strong midfield which played a bigger part in Ugarte falling down the pecking order than his form.

Meanwhile, Ugarte is earning €118,846 per week at PSG currently and he will receive a sufficient raise from Man United. The 23-year-old has the

age and all the qualities to succeed with the Red Devils despite the eye-brow-raising money spent.

United are seeking opportunities to sell their fringe players and balance the finances to avoid issues with the Financial Fair Play rule. Rest assured, the Red Devils fanbase will welcome Ugarte with open arms after their last season’s trouble in that area.
