European giants want to sign Manchester United first-team star who is going through a rut

Manchester United star Marcus Rashford is among the names on Barcelona’s wishlist

Marcus Rashford has endured a tough time at Manchester United in the last 15-18 months. He managed only seven Premier League goals in 2023/24 as the Red Devils ended the season in eighth place—the club’s worst-ever Premier League finish.

The 26-year-old’s poor form also saw him miss out on a place in the England squad for Euro 2024 in Germany. Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has full confidence in the academy graduate that he will bounce back this season and deliver the goods.

There is intense speculation surrounding the future of Marcus Rashford and a surprise new club has joined the race to sign him before the transfer window closes down.

According to GOL journalist Albert Fernandez, Barcelona boss Hansi Flick has suggested Barcelona to sign Marcus Rashford from Manchester United. He wants to reinforce the left side of his team’s attack in this transfer window with a player capable of ‘dribbling and scoring goals’, which has led to interest in the Red Devils star.

Rashford has been on Barcelona’s radars in the past as well but a move for him didn’t materialise. In recent years, the Catalan club have not been in a strong financial position to splash big on players, and with the England international contracted at Old Trafford until 2028 (Transfermarkt), a move in the past wasn’t feasible.

The Wythenshawe-born talent’s form may have gone downhill since the end of the 2022/23 season, where he scored 30 goals across all competitions, but he still remains one of Ten Hag’s main men in the offensive department. Following Anthony Martial’s release in June, Rashford is the most experienced forward in the squad right now.

At 26, Man United fans would think that the club’s number 10 finally sparks into life and becomes a clinical forward. He has Ruud van Nistelrooy as an assistant coach now to learn how to become ruthless in front of goal. While he didn’t get an assist or scored a goal against Fulham on the opening day of the new season, Rashford at least looked lively in the final third.

The profile of attacker Hansi Flick is looking to sign for Barcelona perfectly matches with Rashford, but we’d think our club will not sanction the star forward’s sale so late in the window unless an extremely tempting bid is tabled. Let’s see how this story develops in the coming days, but it is very unlikely to see the England international leave our club this summer.

That being said, will this be the last chance saloon for Rashford to revive his Old Trafford career?
