Manchester United plot Ugarte signing on loan

Manchester United have shown an interest in signing Manuel Ugarte for much of the summer as the Red Devils eye a central midfielder, primarily with the ability to play in a double pivot to partner with Kobbie Mainoo.

Casemiro has impressed in the early days of the season but his stay at Old Trafford in 2024/25 was not part of the plans. A failure in getting rid of the former Real Madrid superstar has meant United are unable to offer a permanent deal for Ugarte having spent lavishly on other recruitments as well.

Fabrizio Romano has reported that the Red Devils are prepared to sign the Uruguayan international on loan with an obligation to buy. Ben Jacobs has claimed that Paris Saint-Germain are open to sanctioning such a deal.

It remains to be seen which party will bear the majority of Ugarte’s wages and other financial details of the deal, like the loan fee as well as Ugarte’s price next year, are also yet to be determined. However, personal terms between Manchester United and Ugarte have been in place since July, as per Romano.

The former Sporting Lisbon midfielder wants to join the Red Devils this summer and has been pushing for it, although PSG are in no rush to sell him. As a result, they are happy to drag the deal into the last days of the transfer window.

Jorge Mendes is said to be on the transfer in order to accord with his client Ugarte’s wishes but with the two clubs inclining towards being open to a loan with an obligation to make the deal permanent in 2025, it may only be a matter of days before the 23-year-old signs his contract at Old Trafford.

Ugarte’s loan would be a fantastic coup by Man United, especially considering that they will even hold on to Casemiro for another year. The Brazilian will be an asset as far as squad depth and leadership goes even if he does not feature often.
