Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho is closing in on a return to Borussia Dortmund
Manchester United have been amongst the busiest Premier League clubs in the summer transfer window, though the next 10 days prior to the August 30 deadline are shaping up to be busy ones at Old Trafford.
Paris Saint-Germain’s Manuel Ugarte remains the priority signing in midfield, while the Red Devils continue to seek a new left-back to provide competition and cover for Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.
As far as the departures are concerned, Raphael Varane, Anthony Martial and Brandon Williams have all been released upon the expiry of their contracts at the end of June. Willy Kambwala, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Mason Greenwood, Alvaro Fernandez and Donny Van de Beek have all been sold to boost the transfer kitty for Erik ten Hag to spend on fresh blood.
Another player who could be heading to the exit door is Jadon Sancho. The English winger’s future is seemingly away from Manchester United. Since returning from a successful six-month loan spell with Borussia Dortmund, the 24-year-old has been reintegrated into the team by Erik ten Hag after both drew a line from their last September’s fallout.
However, the Red Devils boss opted to exclude Sancho from the matchday squad against Fulham despite the lack of attacking options in the team. While Ten Hag stated the £250k-a-week star missed the win over Fulham due to an ear infection, the real reason could actually be different as per the latest reports.
According to a report from Spanish outlet Fichajes, Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund’s negotiations for Jadon Sancho have reached an ‘advanced stage’ with the England international seemingly close to re-joining the 2023/24 Champions League finalists.
Sancho became a highly coveted commodity during his time at Dortmund which led to Man United splashing a ridiculous amount of money to sign him in the summer of 2021. However, things have not worked out for the player, whose time at Old Trafford has been marred with inconsistency, fitness issues and off-field controversies.
The England international thrived under Edin Terzic during the second half of last season, helping the Yellow and Black qualify for the Champions League final where they were beaten by Real Madrid 2-0 at Wembley Stadium. At just 24, the ex-Manchester City academy starlet, still has a lot to offer and a permanent move back to Dortmund could be the best outcome for all parties involved.

In a separate story by Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth, several European clubs are exploring a deal for Sancho. PSG have cooled down their interest in the wide playmaker, while Dortmund and Juventus couldn’t match Man United’s valuation. All signals are pointing towards Sancho staying in Greater Manchester but things may change in the final 10 days of the transfer window.
