Toney willing to accept lower pay for Man United move

Ivan Toney has been linked with a Brentford exit for much of the summer and was also left out of the team in their match against Crystal Palace before clarity is sought over his future. Manchester United had been linked with him for much of the summer, as were Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur.

It has recently emerged that the English international has received an offer to depart the club from Al Ahli. A three-year contract with the Saudi Pro League giants could see the forward earn up to €120 million (a base salary of €20 million, plus some performance-related bonuses).

However, Toney’s preference is to remain in Europe, preferably in the Premier League and he is willing to accept a reduction in pay as compared to the Middle Eastern contract to prolong his career in England. Arsenal and Manchester United have been mooted as two sides which particularly interest the striker, as per Manchester Evening News.

While the player has been linked with the Red Devils in recent weeks, it is practically ruled out that they will indeed make a move for Toney following Joshua Zirkzee’s signing. Rasmus Hojlund is currently injured, though only for the next few weeks and as such, Erik ten Hag does not require a third central forward.

Pep Guardiola, the Man City manager is a huge fan of Ivan Toney and and had a glowing endorsement when speaking about him. Here is what he had to say.

“He’s an exceptional player. Not just with the long balls, with keeping (the ball) and set-pieces, with the penalties as a guarantee. For many things they can link with him and he’s an extraordinary player. I’m so happy he is back and hopefully that

period is forgotten in his life and for his family. Exceptional players always are more than welcome in the Premier League.”

United’s business for the transfer window, however, is far from done with a move for Manuel Ugarte still on the cards. A number of departures could also be on the horizon with the likes of Facundo Pellestri and Scott McTominay being linked with moves away from Old Trafford.
