Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag backs winger Marcus Rashford to regain the form he showed in the 2022-23 season. Rashford has delivered exciting performances in the pre-season which has brought hope within the fanbase ahead of the new season.
Ten Hag took charge of the Red Devils in the 2022-23 season where United reestablished their defensive formidability once again. In offence, United lacked contribution from different players but Rashford single-handled drove the team forward with several consistent goalscoring performances.
The 26-year-old earned promotion from the prestigious United academy in the 2015-16 season under the former manager Louis van Gaal. While his immense talent and potential caught the eye of the global United fanbase, the Englishman needs to fulfil it now.
Throughout his club career, Rashford has struggled with inconsistency which prompted many opinionated reasons from the football experts and fans. His critics questioned the work ethic and Rashford’s dependency on confidence instead of being a cold and clinical goalscoring machine.
The 26-year-old faced more criticism for his selfish style of play, opting to shoot when he could assist the frontman. Nevertheless, Rashford remains a key cog in Ten Hag’s system while playing on the left side of the attacking wing.
Speaking to the media (via the Guardian), Ten Hag backed Rashford to regain the form that he lost last season. He said:
“I think he was several times in very good positions, I am very pleased he is getting in those positions. He needs to keep going and keep making those movements and he will score goals. He is experienced enough to deal with this. Once he scores one, the goals will come.”

The Red Devils suffered from a severe injury crisis and poor individual performances throughout the last season. They cannot afford to make similar mistakes once again and their over-dependency on Rashford’s form is another issue for them.

Rashford could singlehandedly drive Man United forward next season if he regains his top form and continues with consistency. However, his reliability took a major hit last season when fans and critics believed he had removed childhood inconsistencies from his system.
