Manchester United negotiating deal for Atletico Madrid’s Mario Hermoso
Manchester United have got Matthijs de Ligt’s transfer from Bayern Munich across the line after lengthy negotiations with the Bundesliga giants. The Dutchman is about to reunite with Erik ten Hag in yet another important and long-term defensive acquisition by the club.
The Red Devils have been extremely keen on adding as much squad depth as they possibly can, especially after their unprecedented injury crisis for all of last season and will not die down until the transfer window is officially shut.
According to El Sevillista journalist Maximo de la Cruz Ramirez Ramirez, Man United are already in touch with Atletico Madrid over a swoop for Mario Hermoso. It is understood that the player is open to an Old Trafford switch and is demanding a three-year contract along with a gross annual compensation worth €6 million.
Los Rojiblancos have recently signed Robin Le Normand from Real Sociedad, which could result in Hermoso losing his spot in the heart of defence next to Jose Maria Gimenez. Therefore, it is no surprise that the 29-year-old is okay to move to England.
While Atletico’s financial demands still remain unclear, they could also let go of the central defender for a reasonable price after spending a big sum on purchasing Conor Gallagher as well as Julian Alvarez in recent days.
Hermoso would be a great addition to Ten Hag’s squad if Victor Lindelof moves on. He is a physically tough defender with good aerial prowess, an attribute which the Swedish international and Lisandro Martinez are both lacking.
