Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed that Manchester United signed Bayern Munich star Matthijs de Ligt to bolster their defence further
According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United have signed Matthijs de Ligt from Bayern Munich in a financially suitable transfer deal. The Red Devils are actively strengthening their squad before the beginning of the new season to fulfil their season’s ambitions.
Manager Erik ten Hag struggled with a severe injury crisis and poor individual performances within the squad that ruined last season. United finished the season with an FA Cup victory against Manchester City and hopes to use that as an inspiration.
However, the United squad needs a lot of tuning before the season begins as the injury crisis resurfaced during the pre-season. During the pre-season, the Red Devils lost new signings Leny Yoro and Rasmus Hojlund and looked vulnerable in many positions.
Romano used his official X account to announce that United have signed De Ligt from Bayern to bolster their defence. The club agreed to pay a €45m fixed fee with €5m in add-ons, spreading the payment over three years for financial relief.
The Red Devils have many fringe players that they need to sell before the transfer window closes. However, such a deal structure would benefit them as they have faced trouble with the financial fair play rules.
De Ligt’s addition provided much-needed European experience, quality and stability in the defence that United sorely lacked. Furthermore, the 24-year-old is only reaching the peak year of his career and has a long career ahead of him.

If things go well, De Ligt could establish himself as one of the leaders at Old Trafford for years to come. However, the Dutchman has suffered issues with recurring injuries that hampered his stay in different top clubs.
