Manchester United secures major €20m coup ahead of Premier League opener

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed that Manchester United have finally agreed terms with Bayern Munich for versatile fullback Noussair Mazraoui. Bayern rejected the early combined bid from the Red Devils which also involved Matthijs de Ligt despite the players’ availability.

United are negotiating a deal for Aaron Wan-Bissaka with West Ham United simultaneously to bolster their funds for further transfers. The situation will allow Mazraoui to compete with Diogo Dalot for the first-team spot for the right-back position next season.

However, the 26-year-old is also capable of filling multiple positions from left-back to central midfield which must have attracted United. Manager Erik ten Hag struggled with a severe injury crisis last season and the situation looked familiar during the pre-season tour.

The Red Devils lost new signing Leny Yoro for three months due to a foot injury alongside forward Rasmus Hojlund. United need utility players who can fill multiple positions and perform with the consistency and qualities required by the manager.

Romano used his official X account to reveal that United have agreed to a €20m deal which includes add-ons with Bayern. Mazraoui signed a five-year deal, with an additional year available for the Red Devils to trigger when required.

The transfer boost comes at the right time as the Red Devils lost to Manchester City in the Community Shield. With the Premier League season starting next week, Mazraoui has ample time to adjust to his new environment.

Furthermore, the lack of left-back options would mean that one of Dalot or Mazraoui would play there until Luke Shaw returns.  United hasn’t finished their transfer business yet, with many players at the club facing an uncertain future.

Nevertheless, the addition of the Morocco international helped shape the team with more stability and structure. The decent price tag also helps United with the financial fair play rules as they prepare to sell fringe players in the coming weeks.
