Manchester United now set medical date for 26-year-old whose transfer is 'almost a done deal'

Manchester United set medical date for Bayern Munich right-back Noussair Mazraoui

According to Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna, Manchester United have scheduled a medical for Bayern Munich full-back Noussair Mazraoui for Tuesday.

The Red Devils are close to signing Noussair Mazraoui, as Erik ten Hag aims to improve his squad ahead of the new Premier League campaign. The Moroccan defender has agreed a five-year contract with Manchester United with an option for a further 12 months. Bayern Munich has given the player the green light to join the 20-time English champions.

On his X account, Santi Aouna has confirmed that Mazraoui’s medicals are set to take place on this coming Tuesday provided everything goes according to plan.

“EXCL: IT’S ALMOST A DONE DEAL. Noussair Mazraoui will join Manchester United,” Aouna tweeted.

“Bayern Munich authorized Noussair Mazraoui to join MU. The Moroccan right back will take private flight in the next days. If nothing changes, medical test booked on Tuesday.

“Contract valid until June 2029 + one year in option. Erik Ten Hag wants Mazraoui for the Community Shield”.

It is now an open secret that Man United’s move for Mazraoui is dependent on Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s proposed switch to West Ham United. The Red Devils have already rejected West Ham’s offers for Wan-Bissaka, with the two clubs in concrete negotiations to make the deal happen. They have slapped an £18million price tag on the right-back’s head, with the Mancunian giants ready to move him on after he has entered the final year of his deal.

The ex-Crystal Palace star’s departure will aid Man United’s pursuit of new signings, especially Mazraoui. Having gone into the final 12 months of

his deal at Old Trafford, the Hammers are trying to acquire Wan-Bissaka’s signature for a reduced fee than £18million.

As aforementioned, Ten Hag wants Mazraoui for the FA Community Shield final against Manchester City on Saturday which could see negotiations between Man United and West Ham accelerate for Wan-Bissaka. In Mazraoui, the Red Devils would be getting an immediate upgrade on Wan-Bissaka and a player who is more in the mould of a modern-day full-back. The Morocco international has worked under Ten Hag at Ajax previously which should help him adapt to his system at Old Trafford should a deal go through.

There is no doubt that the 26-year-old would enhance Man United’s defence, having been one of the most under-appreciated modern-day full-backs for many years now. His injury record at Bayern, however, is the only red flag with Mazraoui missing 29 games since arriving from Ajax in the summer of 2022.

If Ten Hag, his coaching staff and the club’s medical department can help Mazraoui maintain his fitness, he could turn out to be an unbelievable signing.
