Matthijs de Ligt seeks Man United switch this summer
Manchester United have not given up on Matthijs de Ligt’s signing from Bayern Munich despite capturing Leny Yoro from Lille, though it is perhaps for good reason now as the newly acquired Frenchman is injured and out for three months.
The Red Devils had made a joint offer amounting to £55 million for De Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui but it was turned down by Bayern Munich. The club is pondering over whether to return with an improved bid specifically for the centre-back, according to Give Me Sport, as he is keen on pursuing a career at Old Trafford.
However, neither Bayern Munich nor Matthijs de Ligt have cheap demands.
The Bundesliga giants are seeking £45 million plus add-ons for his sale this year, whereas the former Ajax Amsterdam captain wants to become the team’s highest-paid central defender at £200,000 per week.
Manchester United are unwilling to give into Bayern Munich’s demands, more so after Yoro’s signing, but it remains to be seen if they are happy to accommodate De Ligt’s ask. The Dutchman would bring with him leadership qualities, experience as well as longevity, so his requested salary is arguably a fair amount.
By the looks of it, Ten Hag’s side has been priced out of a move for Jarrad Branthwaite and therefore, De Ligt’s signing could be their only realistic shot at purchasing another centre-back before the first official clash of the 2024/25 season on August 10th.
To make matters more complicated for Manchester United, Bayern may not reduce their asking price as they are under absolutely no pressure to sell players, not least someone of De Ligt’s quality.
And while the 24-year-old is keen on reuniting with Ten Hag, it seems unlikely that he will resort to extremes like skipping training to push for a move out of Bavaria this summer.

Manchester United’s hands are admittedly tied but given circumstances which include Yoro’s expensive purchase, they may have to forget about De Ligt’s addition unless they can pay him as well as Bayern the money they are after.
