Erik ten Hag offers fresh injury update ahead of FA Community Shield

Man United manager Erik ten Hag has provided fresh injury updates for the players that hobbled off the pitch in his side’s friendly against Liverpool ahead of the Manchester Derby later this week in the FA Community Shield.

United’s friendly against Liverpool was an affair they’d like to forget as they were beaten 3-0 amidst added injury scares.

Harry Maguire was left out as a precautionary measure. Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelöf, and Jonny Evans were withdrawn during the game. Academy graduate Will Fish, who came on at half time, also went off injured.

“Always, we have to see what has gone on.

“The assessment, of course, with Will Fish is it’s an impact injury. We also had to sub Jonny Evans at half-time because he was ill. Victor Lindelof [was] a precaution. So, yeah, there are some injuries, but we have to see how bad it will be.

“Pre-season is always tough. But, yeah, Harry Maguire, as a precaution, we leave him out.

“And we had, of course, some injuries, but that is part of club football. We have to develop our team and make some good progression.”

United now return to Carrington for training ahead of the Community Shield encounter against Man City this coming Saturday.

Winning the Community Shield will make it at least three trophies in three seasons for the Dutch manager at Old Trafford.

United kick off their Premier League campaign against Fulham on Friday, August 16.

The never-ending plight

The injuries are a problem. They’re an increasing problem in the sport in general and are sadly not going to go away anytime soon.

For United, however, there simply seems to be no respite. Especially for their defenders.

One only hopes that the issue becomes less of a problem as the season progresses and United are able to gain some momentum early in the season in order to bear the hardships that will come their way inevitably during the second half of the season.

And, as soon as they can on board the defenders they are being linked with, the better.
